THE MAB V2-BASED SUBSTATION CONTROL SYSTEM

The MAB V2 equipment is the basic unit of the control of automatics system developed and produced for electric power distribution systems by ELKO-INFOWARE. This General Description introduces the main units and their modules.

Basic Features

During the development of the units ELKO-INFOWARE considered the following main points of view:
  • Bay-orientation: the mechanical construction, the clear modularity and theflexible built-in communication system support the bay-oriented structure ofthe whole system
  • Modularity: the well-defined hardware, software and system parts ensure the best cover of the present task with unique combination of the units
  • Noise Protection: the electric substations are remarkably noisy on the electronic point of view. The MAB V2 units are specifically able to work in such noisy circumstances
  • Internal Process Interfaces: this solution allows reaching the less need for place, bettering noisy protection, less costs
  • Accuracy: event-handling with 1 ms time resolution
  • Reliability: is ensured by the wide range of self diagnostics abilities and the solicitous production and testing process
  • Safety: the improvement of the output modules avoids the possibility of the mistakes of the commands
  • Quality: the quality of the MABV2 units if guaranteed by the ISO 9002 quality assurance standard of INFOWARE
  • Effective Data Transmission System: the system supports so many solutions for solving data communication challenges either in its structure (looping or radial), contents (available many applied protocols) and physical shape (fibre optic, radio, serial line, bus-oriented or network connectors)
The Equipment in the System

The figure bollow demonstrates the possible place of the MAB V2 equipment in the system. Regarding the figure there are two different units built from the similar industrial elements: the CU (Communication Unit) organises the database building and the data transmission lines in the substation, and the BU (Bay Unit), which keeps the direct connection with the primary technology. There are some other units built from these elements, which are introduced by this General Description as well.

Units

MAB V2 CU (Communication Unit)

The MAB V2 CU is the central equipment of the substation control system. It is able to handle all of the bay units and other IED-s in the substation. The MAB V2 CU is either a possible data concentrator of large distributed systems or simple protocol converter for other applications. In case of radial system architecture there is a multiplexer (MUX) unit for concentrating the similar serial data lines.

MAB V2 CU

The Basic Functions of CU:

  • Building unified database for distributed systems
  • Ensuring standardised communication protocol for the SCADA centre
  • Integrating many different units into one system
  • Time synchronisation with GPS receiver
  • Handling at last thirty, totally independent communication protocols in one time
  • Loading the configuration files to the controlled bay units
  • Self-diagnostics

The Automatic Functions of CU:

  • Secondary signal generation (communication statuses, error-in-unit, ...)
  • Interlocking logic on the system level
  • Synchro-check logic
  • Controlling automatic, event-actualised output lines
  • Running tasks developed by the customer
  • Protection against non-permitted operating modes

The Standardised or Producer-specific Protocols with CU References:

  • MAB (internal protocol of the RTU of ELKO-INFOWARE)
  • SAM (follows the Hungarian suggestions of the 1980s)
  • IEC 60870-5/101 (international standard for the power industry)
  • MODBUS (usual data transfer mode)
  • J-bus (protocol for Sepam protection units)
  • RP-570 (protocol for ABB protection units)

This list is always enlarging. The CU is able to work even as WEB server and can be hinged to a TCP/IP, Ethernet network.

MAB V2 BU (Bay Unit)

The BU is the basic unit of the substation control system. The equipment is able to solve any basic controlling functions in the controlled/supervised bay.

MAB V2 BU

The Basic Functions of the BU:

  • Data acquisition with anti-jarring algorithm, timing with ±1 ms accuracy
  • Controlling with simple or combined relay outputs
  • Intelligent switchgear-control
  • Measurement with significance-control
  • Time handling
  • Handling of local mimic board
  • Building the local database
  • Data connection to other intelligent bay tools (protection relay, distinct automatics, metering units, ...) and building the database of the connected unit
  • Communication to the higher control level (substation CU)
  • Self-diagnostics

The Automatic Functions of the BU:

  • Secondary signal generation (automatic breaker-out, error in the unit, ...)
  • Local interlocking functions
  • Synchro-check logic
  • Interswitching logic in the auxiliary power supply
  • Voltage line selection
  • Transformer regulation
  • Wattguard (protection against over-consumption)
  • Emergency switch-off
  • Switching-on timing order
  • Protection against non-permitted operating mode

MAB V2 BU plus (BU with local MMI)

The BU+ has the same functions as the BU, but the graphical built-on-front MMI ensures the local control of the bay via the unit.

The extra functions of the unit are the following:

  • Displaying the pre-drawn mimic figures with status-dependent elements
  • "Help" function
  • Indication of the status schedule of the 110 lines
  • Displaying data-base schedule
  • Pre-definable LED-type status indication
  • Data logging with text-format data-base
  • Measurements on the mimic figure
  • Text-type indication of signal statuses
  • Time indication
  • Locall remote control selection
  • Control of the technology from the schematic figure
  • "Service" functions

MAB V2 ITSZ (Transformer Management Unit)

The lTSZ is a distinct transformer-regulation unit, which is able to solve the cooling control, the load-dependent tap charger and the voltage limiter functions in one equipment. The ITSZ could work as independent unit or as part of the control system as well.

MAB V2 IFR (building-protection unit)

The IFR building protection subsystem is the part of the MAB V2 control system. The IFR-32 unit can handle 32 protection zones of the protected building. The events to be sent to the centre are time stamped. The unit handles the alarming functions as well. The unit has its own permission from the Hungarian authorities.

MAB V2 ITFR (fire-protection unit)

The ITFR-15 is an intelligent fire protection centre built from MAB V2 elements, working together with other parts of the control system. The unit assembles the signals of the sensors, controls either the alarm sirens, lamps, or ventilators and fire gates. The ITFR-15 controls 15 fire zones and able to work as independent unit as well.

MAB V2 FTK-FKA

The unit solves the frequency-dependent load limiter functions of the power distribution substation. The lowering frequency can be indicative of the overloading system so the automatic function can switch the less important feeders off, according to the pre-defined priorities. There are two operation stages of the automatics for switching the feeders off.

MAB V2 ZIR (Fault-Recorder System)

The MAB V2 ZIR is a total fault recording structure developed for hubs (substations) of the power distribution systems of utility or industrial companies. The system helps to evaluate the reasons of the malfunctions of the power lines. It is
easy to find the unit or principle caused the disturbances in the system, and can avoid the return of the mistake. This system is necessary for the uninterruptible power supply of a factory or an area.
